Pieter Jeroense

Pieter Jeroense has a long track record in the public sector, bridging local with global perspectives.

Master’s degree in Dutch language and literature (Utrecht University) and in Public Administration (Erasmus University of Rotterdam). Postgraduate in Journalism (University of Applied Sciences Utrecht). PhD in Public Administration (Leiden University). His dissertation is about the subnational diplomacy in the Netherlands. 

He started his career at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and soon after decided to dedicate his career to local government. He held several management positions at the municipalities of Leiden, Rotterdam, and Alphen aan den Rijn, where he was the city manager. 

In 2017, he became Deputy General Director of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG). Since May 2022, he has also been the executive director of VNG International, the international branch of VNG.

Pieter is chair of the board of The Hague Academy for Local Governance and board member of the VNG Fund for Emergency Aid, Reconstruction, and Peace Building.
